Let me help you in resolving the issue.Since you have tried many troubleshooting steps with no avail,I would rather suggest you to perform a repair in-place upgrade on the current operating system, this will just fixes/ repairs the issues with any corrupted system files and will not restore any lost data prior to this.In-place upgrade is to repair the current state of your operating system. Also, the issues with built-in apps on Windows 10 would be fixed when you perform the repair.Refer: How to: perform a repair upgrade using the Windows 10 ISO fileby Andre Da Costa and check if it helps. Also refer to:Hope the information helps.
Keep us posted on Windows related queries and we will be happy to assist you further. The writer remarked that 'This shows x:windowssystem32' and then said 'It will not take the entry C:'this is my case as well. The system was an operating Windows 7 Professional system, and performed an automated upgrade to Windows 10.
Now, the system will not start. I can only get to a command prompt with x:windowssystem32. Attempts to access theC: partition result in.'
Could not be performed because of an I/O device error.I used the fsutil utility to discover what little information I can supplyThis system has a 1 TB drive, which was partitioned to two partitions. Each partition has 500 GB - and is verifiable.Currently, the X partition has about 500 GB, and the D: partition has the other 500 GBThe D: partition now has a single directory - REPAIR, and none of my other files or directories. The Repair directory is not accessible - access denied.what can be done?
I ran into the same x: prompt after trying to update to Win 10 1607. Wouldn't complete so I read some posts. One suggested doing a chkdsk which I did. It went to 13% then stopped for quite a bit of time.
Finally gave up and restarted the PC. The PC wouldnot boot, it just sent me to the reset the UEFI settings. I tried several things and finally used my Win 10 rescue disk, That's where I saw the x:windowssystem32 prompt.
I used the Troubleshooter to get the CMD prompt. Tried to cd to C: and got this 'Thefile or directory is corrupted or unreadable.' Ran diskpart to check the disk.
It does not show a drive 'x' but has interestingly, the OS is listed as drive G! Usng diskpart, I tried to change the C drive to Z and the G drive to C/ Did an exit then recheckedand it was as unchanged. So tried to reboot the PC and went through the same scene, Reran diskpart and the drives were again X and G. Is there any way I can delete the C drive in diskpart so that I can rename the G drive to C? The Restore, Reset, StartUpFix, all fail in the troubleshooting. BTW also tried to rerun chkdsk but get messages saying the drive is locked or write protected so chkdsk with not run. Also tried sfc /scannow, same errors.
I've been messing with this for 3 days and can't seem to breakthe code to clean it up. About to the point to get a new HDD and install it with a clean Win 10 install. I don't want format the current HDD because I had it partitioned and drive F has all my files and stuff. Also the drive G dir looks like C should.
